We are sustainable and socially responsible
Carbon emissions from web surfing
How much carbon is emitted by computer centers and digital technologies?
In 2016, The Independent reported that data centers make up around two percent of the world's carbon emissions, about as much as the aircraft industry. Unfortunately, pollution from data centers around the world is projected to grow to 14 percent of the world's carbon emissions by 2040. This is equivalent to the CO2 emitted into the atmosphere by the United States in a year. And according to The Shift Project, the total climate impact of digital technologies in 2017 was about four percent of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions.

Climate-friendly websites that support poverty reduction
Tree planting and social impact in Africa
We also support Better Globe Forestry Ltd.’s tree planting activities in Kenya and Uganda's arid and semi-arid areas to reduce extreme poverty among the families living there. This involves, among other things, helping smallholder farming families, so they can increase their income and become more climate resistant.
Carbon offset
Partner farmers use agroforestry to improve soil health, reduce erosion, and increase food security. Agroforestry is a farming technique where farmers plant trees between food crops. In addition to absorbing CO2, the trees ensure that more carbon is retained by the soil.
We help counteract tropical deforestation
The measures implemented in East Africa help restore degraded land areas and can even reduce tropical deforestation. Among other things, this is possible because less poverty reduces the need to chop trees for income. In addition, the community gains access to branches from the trees and grass as animal fodder during the maintenance of the local tree plantations.
Trees can help provide a better and more sustainable future
Some of the tree species that are planted will also be able to replace timber that comes from mahogany trees. Tropical hardwood trees such as mahogany are usually cut in tropical forests, a practice that contributes to tropical deforestation. By planting drought-resistant African mahogany trees in arid and semi-arid areas, people living there can find employment in the green sector. Three of the major benefits of planting these types of trees in degraded areas are less extreme poverty, a reduction in tropical deforestation, and counteracting desertification.
Tree planting at Kenyan schools
A separate 10-year project also helps to plant trees at one thousand schools in Kenya's arid and semi-arid areas. Diverse types of trees are donated through the project, and the children and their families gain more knowledge about how important trees are to the environment. The schools that take the best care of the trees receive extra support through awards and grants.
Carbon negative
Thanks to green web hosting by GreenGeeks and tree planting, our websites are sustainable and carbon negative. Learn more about how you can neutralize your carbon footprint and help reduce extreme poverty in East Africa here.
Making a difference with Child Africa
We support children's access to education
The schooling of children is supported through donations and renovation of schools in Kenya and the construction and operation of schools in Uganda conducted by Child Africa International. Child Africa is a unique charity organization that does fantastic work. They secure schooling and care for children among some of the poorest families in Uganda. And due to voluntary efforts, as much as 96 percent of what you donate goes directly to the children and the schools in Uganda. We use some of our income to support their mission to reduce poverty and corruption in Africa by educating children.
We highly recommend becoming a sponsor for a child
Because of their incredible impact, we highly recommend visiting
Child Africa's website and donating or becoming a sponsor for a child that you will be able to follow throughout the school years. It does not cost much and warms both hearts in Uganda and your own. In fact, research shows that we are the happiest when we can help others and share some of what we have in abundance compared to other people.
Taking sustainability and social responsibility seriously
We support children's access to education
Some of our core values, in addition to protecting our visitor’s privacy, are doing our part to counter environmental degradation and extreme poverty. We do that by using a portion of our income to support socially responsible and sustainable companies. And we prioritize green and sustainable web services and privacy-first web solutions.
Healthy climate action
We also like to think that we inspire people to make healthier choices and thereby hopefully contribute to reducing the dependency on pharmaceutical drugs. The unnecessary use of pharmaceuticals is polluting the environment, causing harm to animals, and driving antibiotic resistance. When visiting our websites or placing a purchase through our links, you take climate action together with us and help support a greener and healthier future for us all by making better lifestyle choices.
